This instrument was created at the request of a client who wished to preserve the design, color scheme, and choice of materials of the Opus 4 instrument from our workshop. Although we do not produce exact copies, we were pleased to accommodate his wishes and have crafted a truly original piece that respects the brief while bearing the unmistakable signature of our work.
We have retained characteristic elements—high-quality wood, ebony, and inlaid decorative features. A new addition is the ebony marquetry on the instrument’s case. The inlay patterns are inspired by motifs from the original model, this time arranged in new designs and without olive rosettes, further emphasizing the uniqueness of this piece.
The instrument’s range has been adapted to Renaissance models—from F- to a2, with the option of future extension up to C–c3. The keyboard is generously designed: all keys are covered in ebony, while the accidentals are distinguished by inlays of Paua shell from New Zealand. The key fronts are also decorated with diamond-shaped Paua shell inlays. The front of the keyboard frame features the owner’s monogram, crafted from mother-of-pearl set into ebony.
At the client’s request, the lead weight is stored in a wooden box covered in ebony and inlaid with mother-of-pearl, featuring our workshop’s logo as the inlay. The instrument’s case is finished with shellac French polish, highlighting the beauty of the materials used and the precision of the craftsmanship.
This instrument is proof that even when drawing inspiration from earlier work, it is possible to create a completely original and unique piece that fully meets the owner’s vision while carrying the hallmark of our workshop.
