St. Havel church in Mladá Boleslav

As an example of the successful work of our workshop, we can mention a one-manual instrument with 6 registers and pedal, which is currently located in Mladá Boleslav in the Church of St. Havel. Its previous location was at the Pardubice Conservatory. From this place it was brought to the present place in a poor condition. Except of the adjustment of the position and setting of the tone tracture and adjusting of all keys to start at the same position, it was necessary to clean the valves that did not fit into their basic position. This remove the unwanted sound of the organ pipe after switching on the register.

Because the instrument was already modified in the past, including irreversible changes to the organ pipe intonation, it was not possible to restore the instrument to its original condition. Even so, we have done our best and the result is an authentic sound of historical instrument that is pleasant to play.

What adjustments corrupted the instrument?

Some of the original organ pipes were replaced by new ones, whose weren’t suitable in sound with the rest of organ pipes. There was also an unsuitable change into the height of the organ pipes cut. We could mention also a change to the core and the realization of the inappropriate punctures and other deformations.

What was necessary to do to take the instrument to the originally condition?

During the repair we tried to follow up the originally composition of the organ pipes. We have adjusted them all the repairs of the others organ pipes. Some of the pipes was necessary to completely dismount and repeatedly mounted with lower cut. Except of that the 7 tin pipes had to be newly created and installed in the instrument. The rest was necessary to intone. Even in case of wooden registers the work was also complicated. 16 wooden organ pipes were not able to sound, so we had to disassemble them and put new cores in, 2 of them was necessary to completely replace.

We have also corrected the discrepancies in the Flaut 4 ' disposition. Within it in the last octave were the wooden pipes replaced with metal ones of another type. Due to the customer’s limited budget, we stayed this part and only intone to the rest of the register.

And the result?

After challenging work and final tuning, we reached the good sound of the organ, which now consists of 6 registers:

  • Copula 8'
  • Flauta 4'
  • Principal 8'
  • Octava 4'
  • Super octava 2'
  • Subbas 16'
